I’ve got to admit, it was hard for me to watch my favorite bloggers live out a dream I wanted. Everywhere I turned, it seemed everyone’s opinion was to buy a bunch of land and start raising all the animals to have the best life. It left me feeling discouraged and paralyzed.

Although it’s still a dream of mine, the reality is that we are a single income family. With that decision I am able to stay home, raise my daughter, homeschool, and make our house a home. Being content with that decision made the single income worth it. With that in mind, I had to think long and hard how to make a homestead work in our 1,800 square foot home on a fifth of an acre. And when I made that mindset shift, it changed everything.

In fact, I started to really embrace the season we were in. I realized, instead of learning new things and making mistakes on a REALLY large scale, I had the perfect opportunity to learn NOW. With that new perspective, it felt safer to learn and make those mistakes in the present, BEFORE I could potentially lose way more time & money on lots of acreage.
